What is your undergraduate degree and how did you choose that path?

I am currently pursuing a degree in natural resources with a minor in forestry. With this degree, I hope to obtain a job as a Resource Forester for the state. I chose this degree/career path because I wanted to join a career force dedicated to conserving forest land. This job will enable me to provide a positive environmental impact as well as the economical use of forests through practical management skills.

What do you like about working at the Career Center?

I love the family dynamic present within the Career Center. All the staff are helpful and friendly. I have always felt welcome at the Career Center, and I know that is a hugely positive attribute that brings students into our facility and encourages them to use our resources.

Before working at the Career Center, did you use Career Center services and why?

I did not have the chance to use the Career Center services before I started working here mostly because I had only been at Missouri State for a month before being hired. I was unaware of most of the services the Career Center provided. Now that I am aware of the resources at the Career Center, I have used them to advance myself and to offer suggestions to friends who are also seeking career assistance.

What are your goals after graduation?

I plan on applying to become a Resource Forester with the Missouri Department of Conservation.

What is your best stress-management tip?

Stress is unavoidable in life. My best advice would be to take a moment out of your busy schedule to take a breath and write down a plan of action to accomplish all your goals. If possible, step away from the stressor momentarily to enjoy some quiet, outside time.

What do you wish you had done differently in your career readiness preparation?

I wish I had begun researching internships earlier or taken time to volunteer with the company I want to eventually be employed by. Experience is the key to starting a career.

What hobbies do you enjoy?

I love being outdoors! My main hobbies include fishing, reading, and spending time with my loved ones.
