Here at the Career Center, we believe that everybody has a story.
We love when we get to be a part of that story. Meet Sofia Henry, a Missouri State University Alumni and former Career Center Graduate Assistant. Sofia recently came back to our office for a visit. Read Sofia’s story below, on being an international student who graduated and landed a job at a multinational company as an auditor.
“I was an International Student from Indonesia. I went to MSU for my MBA in 2005. I was very fortunate to have an opportunity to be working at the Career Center as Graduate Assistant. While I was working there, I learned so much valuable knowledge that I carry on throughout my career, such as building a strong resume, conducting interviews, communicating and building connection with employers and coworkers. I was also fortunate that I was able to share this knowledge with other MSU students, including International Students. A few months before I graduated, I came across my dream job when I was posting jobs on the Career Center job site! Without thinking further, I submitted my resume and applied for the position. After applying the STAR method I learned from the Career Center at the interview, I received a job offer as an Internal Auditor at a multinational company! They were also willing to provide sponsorship for my working visa. Not only I had always wanted to be an auditor since I was in high school, the job also allowed me to see the world, including coming back to my own home country. I am currently working at one of the largest banking institutions in the US. I have been happily working here for almost 10 years. My advice to all MSU students, particularly to the International Students, please don’t be afraid to use all the available resources that MSU Career Center has offer. Last but not least, keep pursing your dream!”
