Dr. Kevin Mickus, professor of geography, geology and planning at Missouri State University, received a grant of $7,200 from the Quality Geosciences Company for the project “Mount Vernon Resistivity Survey.”
“The survey was performed to investigate a gasoline spill site and why the gasoline entered the ground so quickly and left the area,” said Mickus.
Mickus and his team wanted to determine the depth of the limestone bedrock to see if there are any fractures within the bedrock that could have caused the gasoline to seep into the ground so rapidly. The research area was approximately two miles northeast of Mt. Vernon, Mo.
The grant money will be used to pay students to perform the survey and to cover the cost of the rental equipment needed to complete the project.
