On March 8, the College of Natural and Applied Sciences at MSU will host the 2023 District 8 Junior Academy of Science Competition.
Students in grades 6-12 from Lebanon and Camdenton will be participating, with the top students advancing to the Missouri Academy of Science Meeting on Friday, April 21 in Joplin, MO.
“This competition will give students the opportunity to present their research in a setting that is similar to what college students (and professionals) might do during a professional conference,” Dylan Welker, CNAS administrative assistant said.
“The hope is that they can develop not only their research abilities, but also improve their public speaking skills and how they present information.”
The competition
All participating students will be presenting on a research project that they have either previously completed or are currently working on.
Project focus areas range, with topics like:
- The environment.
- Biochemistry.
- Medicine.
- Computer science.
- Engineering.
Each student is given 12 minutes to present and three minutes to complete a fast Q&A.
The itinerary
The competition will take place from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Blunt Hall.
Only those attending from competing schools will be able to watch the event.
