Student Essay Contest
Fall 2019 Dr. Michael N. Compton Public Affairs Essay Contest. Complete details about the Contest are available at this link. This contest is coordinated and primarily funded by Sigma Pi alumni’s non-profit organization, IDEAL (Institute for the Development of Ethics and Leadership). It is promoted by the undergraduate members of Sigma Pi (who are not eligible to compete) and administered by MSU’s Office of Public Affairs Support. Submissions are due by Midnight, October 20, 2019. See flyer for details. Please announce to your classes. There is a cash prize!

- Oct 1 – Faculty Research Grants: 9:00 AM to Dean’s Office (Gale) for dean’s signature (Dean’s Office submits by 5 PM)
- Oct 1 – Tenure and/or Promotion, Department Heads submit Tenure and/or Promotion dossiers to Department Tenure and Promotion Committees (with external letters included)
- Oct 15 – International Travel Grants (due dates are Jan 15, Apr 15, Jul 15, Oct 15)
Graduate Student 3-Minute Thesis Competitions
Be prepared. The CNAS competition will take place on Monday, October 14. Winners will go on to the University competition which will take place on Friday, November 1.
CNAS 3 Minute Thesis Competition for is scheduled October 14, 2019, 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM. All faculty are invited to the competition.
Two PowerPoint slides – Each student will provide, ahead of time, one PowerPoint slide (name, graduate program and presentation title), plus one slide to accompany their talk (no animation).
Students email PowerPoint slides to galelininger@missouristate.edu no later than Wednesday, October 9, 2019. Slides will be loaded on the computer in the presentation room in preparation for the afternoon session.

Public Observing Night at Baker Observatory
There will be a public observing night at Baker Observatory on October 4 from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM (weather permitting). For updates, cancellations, alternate rain dates, GPS coordinates, address, directions, instructions and other information, please visit their website.
Annual Regional Water Conference
October 10 – Southwest Missouri Regional Water (Tri-State Water Resource Coalition) and Missouri State University will convene their annual regional water conference to provide an opportunity for all stakeholders interested in water issues – cities, towns, counties, business and industry, agriculture, academics, utilities, elected officials, state and federal agency representatives, and other groups whose missions relate to water – to discuss current water issues and our regional water future.

Missouri Academy of Science 2020 Annual meeting
MAS annual meeting is April 24-25, 2020 at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin MO. See the flyer for more information. Senior Division is Saturday, April 25. Poster session will be from 9:30-11:00 AM; lunch, meetings and breakout sessions from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM; Oral presentations 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
