Helping Students

Fall Break will be here in just under two weeks.  I encourage you to continue the goal that I challenged you with last year – save one student from dropping or failing your class.

An extra note of encouragement to your students might be what they need.  Listening carefully to your students might help you learn that they need resources like food, counseling or time management help.  The Bear Pantry, our Counseling Center or a success coach might be just what they need.  If you do not know how to connect them with these resources – please contact the Dean’s office and we will send you the information.

If you hear that a student has made no connections on campus during these first several weeks of the semester, please let Dr. Rebaza know and our student success staff will contact them immediately to get them connected in their home department, with a student organization, with a study group or a mentor.

3 – Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition:

Encourage your graduate students to attend the CNAS 3MT competition! The competition is open to any MSU graduate student with a research project, thesis, or non-thesis (seminar) project. This is a great opportunity for the students to develop and showcase their research communication skills and generate public interest in their research.  Presenters must submit their slides by October 16.  Top four (up to) selected students will participate in the university-wide 3MT competition. See attached flyer on Why You Should Try 3MT! The CNAS 3MT Competition is taking place on October 23 at 3 PM in Cheek Hall 102.
