Topping Out and Construction Updates
The topping out party for Blunt Hall will be held on May 22. The top beam will be placed at 1 PM on May 22. I hope to see you there. If you have not signed the beam – you must stop by the pit before May 10.
BLUNT HALL
5/11/24 to 5/13/24 – Water Shut-Down (All water services will be unavailable through Monday, May 13)
5/11/24 thru 5/18/24 – Steam Outage is happening now.
5/13/24 5/31/24 – Existing East Stairwell & Fourth Floor Existing Office shoring and concrete removal (Avoid east hallway and stairwell).
5/13/24 thru 8/9/24 – Levels 2, 3, & 4 New Restroom Construction (Restrooms on these floors will be offline for the duration of the work – that’s all summer!)
6/1/24 to 6/2/24 – All Building Power Outage – Watch for more information from Ben Boslaugh
6/3/24 to 6/6/24 – New Heating Hot Water coring and piping – Dean’s Office Only.
6/10/24 thru 7/31/27 – Plaster Stadium Sidewalk closed for retaining wall work.
Kemper Hall Construction News
JQH Parkway will be closed between Briggs Street and the Blunt Loading Dock starting May 13 for approximately 2 weeks. There will be no access to lot 19. Sidewalks will be closed.

May/June new construction
- Electrical and plumbing work in addition – Levels 00, 01, & 02.
- Interior metal stud framing on Level 2 & 3.
May/June renovation schedule
- Labs/offices second/third floors (south side) will be moving. Only teaching labs on the north side of the building will be available in the fall of 2024 (with a few exceptions).
- Renovations on south side of second/third floors will begin late June/early July.
Important Upcoming Dates
Brightspace will be the only LMS available for all classes starting May 13, 2024. Blackboard is totally gone on in June – gradebooks, course materials – everything will be gone and not be accessible. Just a quick reminder. Faculty Handbook Section 4.5.1.10. University-wide Learning Management System “ All faculty members shall use the university-wide learning management system to provide an electronic copy of the course syllabus and schedule, communicate class cancellations and schedule changes, and post student grades.”
SOAR – sessions begin on June 3 and run until July 25. There will be a single day SOAR session on May 31 for students attending summer classes and then another one day SOAR session on August 15 if a student couldn’t attend a standard session over the summer.
NSF MRI Proposals 2024 – The submission window is October 15 – November 15. The internal competition will be sometime in July. Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI) | NSF – National Science Foundation
