Greenwood Laboratory School at Missouri State University recently announced a $2.5 million campaign to build two new science labs with state-of-the-art science equipment. The campaign has received $1.2 million in gifts from alumni and friends, including a lead gift from the McQueary family.
“Greenwood has a longstanding tradition of academic excellence with generations of alumni advancing to top positions in engineering, medical, pharmaceutical and research based careers,” said Rick McQueary, campaign chair and lead donor. “Students at the Greenwood Laboratory School have been winning science competitions for years. The state-of-the-art Science Scholars Lab addition will allow our faculty to maintain the highest level of science curriculum.”
College of Education Dean Dennis Kear and College of Natural and Applied Sciences Dean Tammy Jahnke will discuss the impact of these new facilities with parents and alumni at 6 p.m. Jan. 25 in the cafetorium at Greenwood.
“We are so excited to have these new facilities for our students and teachers,” said Greenwood Director Janice Duncan. “Our alumni include an engineer who worked on spacecraft for NASA, an internationally-recognized cardiothoracic surgeon, a world leader in nuclear energy, as well as many doctors, dentists, and science-based professionals here in Springfield and across the country. What our students will accomplish after studying and working in these new facilities is beyond my imagination but I know they will be leaders in creating a better world.”
Butler, Rosenbury & Partners of Springfield are the architects.
Campaign chairs Rick ’71 and Mary (Haseltine) ’71 McQueary, along with committee members Jeff and Lynn (Haas) ’89 Tynes, Alan ’86 and Darla Rosen, and Frank ’85 and Cynthia (Hardie) ’85 Sharp, are working with parents, alumni and friends to raise $1.3 million by this May.
Duncan anticipates that students and teachers will begin to use the new facilities in 2011.
