Greenwood Laboratory School will be celebrating its 110-year anniversary in 2018. The building, which turned 50 years old this year, is undergoing a multi-million dollar expansion project to upgrade its facilities.

Despite some outdated facilities, Greenwood has provided an excellent educational experience to thousands of students over the years, said Dr. Janice Duncan, director of Greenwood Laboratory School.

“Facilities do matter and we now have an opportunity to make them better,” she added.

About the project

The project will take place in three phases and cost more than $6 million.

Phase I – $1.4 million

This phase involves renovating locker rooms. It should be completed by July 2018. Missouri State University has committed $850,000 for this phase.

Phase II – $3 million

This phase includes building a new multi-function gymnasium.

Phase III – $2 million

This phase features a state-of-the-art performance stage, new atrium event entry and welcome center to serve both Greenwood and MSU interests.

Fundraising for phases II and III

Bobby Allison has pledged a seven-figure challenge gift to help make phases II and III a reality.

“We’re grateful to Mr. Allison for stepping up to support this effort,” said Brent Dunn, vice president for university advancement at MSU. “We hope other Greenwood supporters, parents, alumni and friends will give to this campaign so we can ensure our school is ready to educate young minds for the next 50 years.”
