Coach Keith Guttin has spent 37 seasons here with MSU baseball. He’s one of the most successful coaches in the Missouri Valley Conference. His resume speaks for itself as he’s made 11 NCAA Division I Tournaments, won 19 regular season or conference tournaments, coached 18 players that have made the major leagues and has a winning percentage of over 60 percent.
The Bears Fund: Which season was your most memorable season and why?
Coach Guttin: Four that come to mind immediately: 1987 First Division Regional, 2003 College World Series, 2015 Hosted Regional and 2017 overcame some adversity to win our Regional.
BF: Favorite part about your job?
CG: Helping people and representing MSU baseball
BF: If you weren’t a baseball coach, then what line of work would you have gone into?
CG: Lead singer for Journey (Even though I can’t sing).
BF: What are you doing around the house during quarantine?
CG: Playing with our new puppy and making a lot of phone calls.
BF: What is a movie or TV show that you could watch over and over?
CG: The Sopranos
BF: What type of encouragement or advice are you giving to your team right now?
CG: More just keeping them up to date with information that impacts them.
BF: Who is your favorite major league baseball player of all time?
CG: All the former SMS-MSU players.
BF: If you had guests coming over, what dish would you make?
CG: Spaghetti
BF: What has been your favorite family vacation you have been on?
CG: East Coast: Hall of Fame, Niagara Falls, New York City, Boston and Cape Cod.
BF: What is your favorite part about being a grandpa?
CG: Watching my grandson smile and laugh.
