At the Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station

Grapevine phenology and GDD accumulation

April 1, 2011 by Marilyn Odneal

We are setting April 1 as the day to begin counting Growing Degree Day accumulation base 50 at Mountain Grove. We will use the reference site at http://agebb.missouri.edu/weather/reports/gddTable.asp which lists the Mountain Grove weather station (http://www.weather.com/outdoors/agriculture/growing-degree-days/65711 as a backup).

Phenology will be noted according to the Modified E-L system for identifying major and intermediate grapevine growth stages http://door.uwex.edu/files/2010/10/ModifiedEichhornLorennzsystem.pdf

Note that one representative bud is photographed, but the stage is determined by observing several buds in the vineyard.
