Policies regarding marijuana on campus

Use, possession, or distribution of marijuana on campus is strictly prohibited.

December 9, 2022 by admin

Voters recently passed Amendment 3 to the Missouri Constitution, which legalized recreational marijuana in Missouri.

However, this will not change our alignment with the Drug-Free Schools and Community Act and Drug-Free Workplace Act.

Since Missouri State receives federal funds, we are subject to federal laws that expressly prohibit the possession, use or distribution of marijuana on university property or as part of university-sponsored events.

On a federal level, all marijuana remains illegal with the federal government classifying marijuana as a Schedule I drug.

Employees who use, possess, or distribute marijuana on campus or while participating in university-sponsored activities will be subject to disciplinary action as set forth in the Employee Handbook.

Accordingly, employees are encouraged to familiarize themselves with applicable university policies, including Sections 2.4, 2.5, and 9.4 of the Employee Handbook.
