Children’s hospitals are safe places where children can overcome obstacles and recover. And many hospitals are using therapeutic play to connect with the pediatric patients they serve. Play can help children feel a sense of normalcy in an environment that is frankly not normal. Through play, children are able to express themselves and cope with the difficulties they face in the hospital. Therapeutic play is a tool used outside of hospitals as well. During this trip, we will participate in play with children and serve with organizations that work to improve the quality of life for children in Colorado. Through this experience participants will be able to reflect on the knowledge they have gained and grow as active citizens by being ready to give back to the Springfield community and the children here.
