Service Through a Different Lens

March 11, 2019 by emy1998

Crafting a Service Story As the videographer for the Chicago Bear Breaks trip, I’m viewing the majority of the trip from a completely different angle, which has provided me an opportunity to see the story of the trip unfold in a unique way. I expected to get great city skylines in the footage, and I’ve gotten a little of that, but what I also have seen is a group of diverse … [Read more...] about Service Through a Different Lens

Recapping 2016-17 Immersion Trips

March 27, 2017 by Alex Johnson

Our 2016-2017 year of Bear Breaks Immersion Trips has come to an end, so let’s take a look back on the growth, learning, and service we experienced! Bear Breaks truly held to our principles of Pop the College Bubble. Be Fully Present. Spread the Love.  In 2016-17, more than 100 Citizen Bear students, faculty, and staff traveled almost 8,000 miles locally, nationally, and … [Read more...] about Recapping 2016-17 Immersion Trips

Revitalization through Relationships

March 17, 2017 by Alex Johnson

By Analise Reed Today was probably the most eye opening day of service. Being a trip leader, I have seen and learned a lot throughout my experiences. Today we worked with the non profit called Rebuilding the Wall. This group shared their story with us, and it brought tears to not only their eyes, but mine as well. Mary was a social worker who moved to the roughest neighborhood … [Read more...] about Revitalization through Relationships

Volunteering for All?- Irina Andreeva

March 16, 2017 by Makayla Swope

I am the only person in the group with a disability. That's why my experience on the trip is different from the others. Some activities are more accessible for me, some are less. For example, I really enjoyed playing with children in the play room of the hospital. However, I was not able to draw. Instead of this, I could only talk to children. Sometimes I am not sure how to … [Read more...] about Volunteering for All?- Irina Andreeva

A Safe Haven – Chicago Bear Breaks

March 15, 2017 by Alex Johnson

By Macon Allen Today was our third day volunteering in the bitterly cold Chicago, Illinois. We went to A Safe Haven and worked in their food pantry as a part of our direct service piece for our immersion trip. I’m always hearing about homelessness and seeing it portrayed in the media, but I never realized its full effect until this trip. We bagged fruits and vegetables in … [Read more...] about A Safe Haven – Chicago Bear Breaks
