Asheville, North Carolina is well-known for its progressive stance on sustainability and push to address environmental concerns. This trip will focus on an often overlooked aspect of the city: the health and wellness of people living in poverty. Almost one fifth of people in Asheville are living below the poverty line. This trip will explore issues such as food insecurity, homelessness, HIV/AIDS, and other factors that affect the health and wellness of the people of Asheville. We will work with local community partners to understand the causes of these issues and learn about their efforts to improve quality of life for the people they serve.
Our goal is to take our knowledge back to Springfield to better understand issues faced by our community.
