Hello guys, I am Batool Alzubi, I am an international student from Jordan. I am currently a student at Missouri State University and I am junior majoring in creative writing. Our morning started by volunteering at the Dream Center, and we ended our night by making tacos and discovering more of Chicago.
Dream Center
We started our morning by volunteering at the Dream Center. The Dream Center is a program that provides rehabilitation for women, men and teens. the Dream Center provides food, clothing and shelter for people who have goals and are willing to change whatever situation they are in, like homelessness, drug addiction and other situation that are hard to get out from. We started our day by clearing and cleaning some spaces that had old things they do not use anymore. Our work was outdoor and indoor. We moved all the trash to the dumpster by a truck. We also helped them in clearing their basement that flooded. We met one of the men that live in one of the houses that they provide for the people. He talked about what they do as a team, and the services the provide them. We had lunch in one of the homes, and the man joined us for a while. Tomorrow we will work with the Dream Center again, but so far this is what we have done.
Taco Night and Discovering More of Chicago!
After finishing our volunteering hours, our Adviser Darren and several students helped in making beef tacos for Dinner, and others helped in washing the dishes. We are making sure to do good and fair teamwork during this trip, not only in making dinners, but in so many other activities. We ended our night by discovering more of Chicago’s streets and doing a little bit of shopping.
