Service
Today, when we arrived at the thrift store at the Dream Center the first thing that one of the workers, we have met yesterday, said, we brought joy to her heart.
What really got my attention in The Dream Center is how humble are the staff members in the thrift store they run which we have visited it again today and volunteered. It is interesting that they are not being paid but they work hard and they are so ambitious about changing the community and helping people. So, today we worked on organizing a donation of medical equipments to set them by order on the shelves and labeling each box, it is going to be shipped to Africa!!
It feels so satisfying to know that we are not only making changes in the community surrounding us but also far away like Africa. When we organized the medical equipments on the shelves I realized how important are some stuff, that it’s easy for us to afford but sometimes we don’t realize how important it is, like a little box of a medicine for a cold and fever, while I was looking at the boxes I imagined a young kid who really in need of this medicine which could save his/her life.
Reflection
We did a unique reflection today. After we got done with the volunteering we went to the Cloud Gate and after, we gathered and did our reflection outdoor this time.
This time I felt different about the reflection because I just realized how we got closer in just a few days.
Each one of us is learning about a different culture since our group is with an international students from Jordan, China, and Saudi Arabia, and domestic students as well. I personally learned a lot about team-working. Working as a team and each one of us put an effort to help the organization is a great feeling that built a strong connection between us; we are not only helping the homelessness and changing the community but also about our own feelings toward people.
