This year I had the opportunity to be a trip leader on the Asheville trip compared to a student participant. I enjoyed the trip to Asheville last year and was happy to come back in a leadership role. Even though I was exited to come back, I thought I would gain a similar expierence as last year.
That above statement is leaning towards a false statement. Coming back as a trip leader was obviously different from being a participant, but I got to see aspects of Asheville’s commutiy partners in a different light as well.
I believe all the people who attended this trip played a roll when it came to learning new ideas, and seeing what’s beyound our personal bubble. Each of these women on my trip, have taught me something new and created a different atmosphere for this trip.
Today we ended our last full day exploring downtown Asheville. We were able to expierence a drum circle. This consist of people gathering with their drums and all following a rythm together. This is involes everyone in the community such as people with families, dogs, natives, non natives, people who live in their cars, people who live in apartments, etc.
The point of this is the fact that for a moment none of that mattered. It didn’t matter if someone made more money than someone else or if someone was homeless, etc. What occurred in the drum circle was humans being humans together. A community supporting one another and accepting each other’s faults.
Asheville has nothing but support and passion for their community partners and that is something I hope each community can obtain one day.
Thanks for always teaching me something new bear breaks. There is always new knowledge to expand upon.
