College of Arts and Letters Dean Gloria Galanes been selected as the winner of the 2015 Missouri Academic Advising Association Pacesetter Award.
Award honors advocates for advising, student success
The award recognizes upper level administrators who exemplify a commitment to academic advising though have no direct involvement with or responsibility for the administration of advisors or advising.
Dr. Galanes earned the honor through years of service on the Provost’s Academic Advising Council, numerous presentations at Academic Advisor Forum and Master Advisor Workshop sessions, and for encouraging COAL faculty advisors to attain and keep Master Advisor Status by providing travel grants to their respective departments.
She will receive the award on Sept. 24.

Dean Galanes, also a communication professor, is particularly interested in teaching small group communication, intercultural communication, communication and leadership, research methods and applied research.
She has been able to involve her graduate and undergraduate students in a number of activities that have benefited community organizations.
She was the founding director of the Citizenship and Service-Learning program and served as both acting communication department head and acting dean.
