Lexi Kluth headed to Missouri State University to pursue a degree in Nursing.
“Around this time, I was thinking about running for the publicity chair in an on-campus organization I was involved in and quickly realized I had an interest in social media and finding how I could create a career out of it,” said Lexi.
Two days before registering for classes she went up and changed her major. Lexi is now a public relations major with a minor in journalism with some impressive out of class work on her resume.
“Since changing my major, I’ve had three internships that have challenged me, helped me grow as a writer and fostered my passion for social media,” Lexi said. Her internships involved her being a marketing intern at Springfield Dream Center, a world communications marketing intern at Enactus, and an events marketing intern at Downtown Springfield Association.
Finding her passion was easy to her because of the support she has received from her professors and peers. Lexi says the professors at the COM department always have friendly faces and genuinely care about their students in and out of the classroom.
Her favorite thing about the Department of Communication has been the relationships that she has cultivated. Lexi gives high praise for the Department of Communication for creating “a supportive and welcoming environment.”
After graduation in December, Lexi hopes to be a social media director for a university.
“My advice to any student in the Department of Communication is to constantly challenge yourself to be better, work harder than your peers and seek the opportunities that will set you apart. “
