The IRS has published the new 2018 withholding tables as a result of the tax reform passed in December. You will see these changes reflected with pay dates on or after Feb. 2. You can view Notice 1036 regarding the new withholding charts.
The new law makes a number of changes for 2018 that affect individual taxpayers. The new tables reflect the increase in the standard deduction, repeal of personal exemptions and changes in tax rates and brackets. The revisions are also aimed at avoiding over- and under-withholding of tax as much as possible. More information is available in the IRS Withholding Tables Frequently Asked Questions.
The new withholding tables are designed to work with the Forms W-4 that employees have already filed with their employers. You are not required to make changes at this time. However, if you have recently moved, married, divorced, had a child or had another change affecting your claim status, please complete a new W-4 and submit to the Payroll Office, Carrington Hall 119. To change your address, please complete the Change of Address Form and submit to the Office of Human Resources.
Please keep in mind that Payroll cannot provide personal tax advice. It is recommended that you consult with your personal tax advisor for specific questions or information on how this might impact your individual tax filings.
