Check out who reached a milestone during 2023.

The Staff Service Awards Program honors three categories of staff employees:

  • Those who reached a five-year longevity milestone.
  • Those selected for the Staff Excellence in University Service Award.
  • Those selected for the Staff Excellence in Community Engagement Award.

To reach a longevity milestone, employees must have worked as a full-time staff member for five years. The years of service are determined on a calendar year (Jan. 1-Dec. 31).

A brief description about each of the other awards is listed along with the winners.

Staff Excellence in University Service

The Staff Excellence in University Service Award is given annually to six Missouri State staff members in recognition of significant contributions to the university community. The recipients each receive a $1,500 cash award funded by the university.

Full-time, regular employees in administrative, professional and support staff positions who do not hold faculty rank and have at least one year of full-time employment at Missouri State are eligible to receive an award.

The university wishes to recognize those staff employees who strive to do their jobs well on a daily basis, those who go above and beyond the call of duty in a special situation, and those who have contributed in a significant way to the success of the university.

  • Jean Cobban, academic administrative assistant II, Darr College of Agriculture
  • Sheila Long, field and maintenance worker – agriculture, Mountain Grove campus
  • Michael Murphy, senior electronics technician, College of Natural and Applied Sciences
  • Turner Paydon, marketing specialist, strategic communication
  • Kim Stagner, coordinator – student success initiatives, Academic Advising and Transfer Center
  • Evan Wantland, groundskeeper/irrigation specialist, facilities management
  • Susan Williams, administrative assistant, human resources

Staff Excellence in Community Engagement

The Staff Excellence in Community Engagement Award is given annually to two Missouri State staff members in recognition of their service to the community through volunteer work with charitable, nonprofit, religious or similar organizations. Each receives a personalized plaque from the university and a $1,500 cash award from the Missouri State Foundation.

All full-time staff with at least three years of service at the university are eligible for the award. Award criteria include demonstrated personal action to serve community causes; a significant and sustained record of volunteer service; a significant contribution to improve the quality of community life; the upholding of values consistent with the betterment of society; and being in good standing with the Missouri State community.

Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Public Affairs

The Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Public Affairs is an annual award established for staff and faculty who excel at carrying out the public affairs mission within their work capacity.
