Meet Eva Klein! Her research essay “Can A Sustainable Context Predict Recycling” was published in vol. 11 of LOGOS. Eva earned her bachelor’s in psychology and minored in sustainability. She now lives in Italy and studies economics and management at the Università Bocconi.

Briefly describe the subject and theme(s) of your submission. Why did you select this subject?

The piece I submitted is my Honors Thesis Project focused on predictors of pro-environmental behavior. I expected that environmental context would influence how people act, that in a space deemed sustainable people would be more likely to act in sustainable ways. I wanted to apply what I learned about human behavior from my Psychology major in order to learn why people act or don’t act environmentally friendly. This project gave me the opportunity to cross disciplines and combine my major and minor in a project I was really passionate about.

What motivated you to submit your work to LOGOS?

Publishing with LOGOS was recommended to me by my advisor Dr. Fallone and further encouraged by a LOGOS editor with whom I had a class with. Since I had already prepared the work, I considered that having it published could only improve it.

Is this the first time your work has been published?

Yes, this is the first time my work has been published.

How often do you submit your work for publication? Do you intend to submit your work again sometime soon?

This was the first project I have submitted for publication. Since I am no longer a student at MSU I cannot submit to LOGOS again, however the process would lead me to consider submitting future works for publication.

How do you hope your work will impact its respective field? In other words, how do you want your readers to reflect on what you’ve written?

I hope my work inspires people to see the link between psychological factors and actions when approaching sustainability.

How do you hope to benefit as a published author? Do you anticipate this accomplishment will assist you along your career path?

I think it will be nice one day to look back on my undergraduate career and have something to show from it. It will provide a nice benchmark for how I have progressed as a professional in the field of sustainability.

How has this experience changed your perception of yourself and your writing?

This process has gave me a more discerning eye when considering the readability of my work. It helped me think as someone outside the field I am in. Moreover, it has increased my confidence in my writing and my potential to make an impact in the scientific community. I always thought that being published was for acclaimed scientists so realizing that I could participate in expanding the scientific body of research really increased my self-efficacy. Being published made me realize the scientific world is something I can participate in which is very exciting!

Would you encourage your colleagues to submit to LOGOS? Why or why not?

Yes of course submit, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain! It was only a nice experience to have editors instruct me how I can improve my writing.
