Description:

The Installation & Logistics (I&L) Intern Program is intended for individuals interested in the project management, electrical, power, mechanical, or civil engineering fields, and supply chain and business management fields. In addition to gaining valuable work experience in one of the positions described below, interns will gain substantial exposure to I&L’s primary business lines, scope of projects, and role within NSA. Interns will have the opportunity to interact and receive mentorship from Senior Leadership, as well as gain a deeper understanding of NSA’s mission through tours of various facilities and sites. The internship will culminate in a final presentation, which interns will provide to Senior Leadership, describing their projects and summer experience at NSA.

The program is a 12-week internship program consisting of direct involvement with selected NSA facilities construction/renovation projects from planning and design through construction, commissioning, activation and occupancy. Interns are also involved in ensuring that projects run according to schedule, are cost effective, and meet customer objectives.

– Architect/Engineering –
Individuals pursuing a bachelor’s degree in architecture, civil/structural engineering, electrical engineering (power emphasis) and mechanical engineering will gain valuable work-related experience in a government setting. They will be directly involved with selected NSA facilities construction/renovation projects that will support plant operations, maintenance, infrastructure planning, design development, standards application, project management services and design drawing assistance.

– Fire Protection Engineering –
Individuals pursuing a bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering will gain valuable hands on experience working in NSA’s 24/7 operations and monitoring watch center with a team of fire alarm specialists. They will use their problem solving and troubleshooting abilities to provide support to electrical equipment, fire alarm system programming software, smoke detectors, heat detectors, pre-action and wet pipe sprinkler systems and VESDA aspirating systems.

– Industrial Control Systems (ICS)/Building Automation Engineers –
Individuals with a strong background or interest in industrial control systems and who are pursuing degrees in engineering or computer science will support the infrastructure used to control all mechanical and electrical equipment on the installation. This also includes maintenance, expansion and troubleshooting of the Ethernet network, routers and switches and covers various serial interfaces, converters and protocols such as BACnet, Arcnet, MS/TP and Modbus. Interns will also gain experience by working on devices such as Direct Digital Controls (DDC) controllers, DDC Logic, sensors and end control devices and such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s), PDU’s, intelligent relays, power meters, dampers, actuators and valves. This position is in direct support of our Facilities Control Center that serves as the NSAW 24/7 operations and watch center.

– Project Planning and Execution –
Individuals pursuing a bachelor’s degree in project management, or urban development and city planning interested in gaining valuable work-related experience in a government setting will be directly involved with selected NSA facilities construction/renovation projects from design through construction, commissioning, activation, and occupancy. Interns will also be involved in ensuring that projects run according to schedule, are cost effective, and meet customers’ objectives.

– Environmental Engineer/Energy Engineer –
Individuals pursuing a B.S. in environmental science, environmental engineering, or other fields relating to the study of energy and the environment. Selected applicants will have the opportunity to plan and design renewable energy systems, track the impact of greenhouse gasses generated by Agency operations, and monitor the environmental quality of Agency installations.

– Industrial Engineer/Operations research –
Individuals interested in lean manufacturing, process improvement, engineering analysis and design of process controls, or how operations research can be applied to facilities within the Intelligence Community are encouraged to apply to the I&L internship program.

– Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Business Operations –
Individuals pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Logistics, supply chain management, business management, economics or business statistics will be directly involved with global logistics support that meets the needs of NSA organizations worldwide. Interns will provide material management services through acquisition, logistics, storage, distribution and cargo services support to the entire Agency and gain valuable work-related experience in a government setting.

Qualifications:

– Must be a U.S. citizen
– Must be eligible to be granted a security clearance
– Must be majoring in Construction Management, Supply Line Management, or a related Facilities/Logistics field.
– A cumulative GPA point average of 3.0 is preferred
– Must be available for an operational interview and other applicable processing between the months of December 2015 and March 2016
– Must possess strong written and oral communication skills

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

– Students are paid a competitive salary commensurate with their education level.

– Students who attend schools in excess of 75 miles from Ft. Meade, MD, are eligible for a round trip airfare ticket to and from school or mileage reimbursement up to the cost of a government-issued airline ticket
– Daily transportation to and from work is not provided. Students participating in the program are highly encouraged to bring a vehicle. Carpooling with other students MAY be available but NOT guaranteed.
– Subsidized housing accommodations are available upon request if school is located in excess of 75 miles from NSA main HQs campus
