Brandon Lentz received the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal in 2025 for his leadership in accelerating the Mars Sample Return mission design studies. As Contracting Officer, he led a team that reduced a normally six-month contracting process to just 37 days, successfully awarding seven contracts on an unprecedented schedule. His innovative use of model contracts, firm negotiation on data rights, and disciplined project management enabled NASA to meet a critical milestone that will shape the agency’s future planetary science missions.
