Dr. Yun Leads LSCMA Students to ASCM Case Competition

March 15, 2026 by Avas Basnet

Dr. Gawon Yun recently led a group of supply chain students to the Association of Supply Chain Management (ASCM) Midwest Gateway Chapter Supply Chain Student Case Competition, co-hosted by the ASCM Midwest Gateway Chapter and the University of Missouri–St. Louis.

The ASCM Midwest Gateway Chapter is a dynamic regional community of supply chain professionals and students affiliated with the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM). Serving Missouri, Southern Illinois, and Eastern Kansas, the chapter offers valuable opportunities for members to network, gain knowledge, and grow their careers in the field of supply chain management.

About the ASCM Supply Chain Competition

The competition challenged university student teams to solve a real-world supply chain case study using The Fresh Connection, a business simulation in which teams manage a virtual fruit juice company through a series of dynamic, fast-paced decision-making rounds. Teams took on cross-functional leadership roles spanning sales, operations, procurement, and logistics.

This year’s 2026 edition placed a strong emphasis on sustainability, tasking teams with developing strategies to reduce CO₂ emissions and minimize waste while maintaining financial viability across the entire value chain. Over two days at UM–St. Louis, teams completed three live simulation rounds and then presented their results, strategies, and lessons learned to a panel of industry judges.

LSCMA Students Compete in Midwest Supply Chain Competition

Four supply chain management students from the Logistics and Supply Chain Management Association (LSCMA) participated in the competition:

  • Elliot McCoy
  • Peyton Nier
  • Gavin Caldwell
  • John O’Connell

The competition gave our students a valuable opportunity to apply their end-to-end supply chain knowledge in a competitive setting while connecting with industry professionals and peers from universities across the Midwest region.
