Position Overview: Social Media & Advertising Coordinator
Sutherlands is seeking a creative, self-motivated, organized, and results-driven Social Media & Advertising Coordinator to support its marketing and promotional efforts. This role plays a key part in creating and delivering advertisements, promoting store events, seasonal sales, and product offerings, while strengthening Sutherlands’ brand presence both online and within local communities.
The ideal candidate understands retail marketing and consumer behavior, possesses strong communication skills, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has a passion for creating engaging content that connects with customers in the home improvement, hardware, lumber, and lawn and garden industries.
Duties and Responsibilities
Social Media Management
- Create, manage, schedule, and publish engaging interactive content across social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and others as needed).
- Capture photos and videos of products, promotions, store displays, and seasonal events.
- Monitor, manage and respond to customer comments and messages professionally and promptly.
- Track engagement metrics and recommend strategies to increase visibility consistency and reach.
- Maintain consistent brand messaging and voice across all platforms.
Advertising & Promotions
- Assist in planning and executing store-level and regional advertising campaigns.
- Coordinate digital and print advertising efforts including flyers, promotional ads, and online campaigns.
- Promote weekly specials, seasonal sales events, and grand openings.
- Help maintain promotional calendars and ensure timely execution of marketing initiatives.
- Monitor advertising performance and provide reporting on campaign effectiveness.
Content Creation
- Design basic graphics using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
- Create promotional signage, social media graphics, and digital advertising materials.
- Support in-store marketing efforts including event signage and promotional materials.
- Develop creative content aligned with seasonal retail campaigns (spring lawn & garden, summer projects, fall preparation, winter savings events), promotional items and trade show events.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with store managers and department leaders to highlight key products and promotions.
- Coordinate marketing materials with corporate marketing teams when applicable.
- Assist with community outreach and local event promotions.
- Maintain organized files of marketing assets, content calendars, and campaign schedules.
- Research and recommend new marketing strategies.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in social media management, marketing, advertising, or related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using social media platforms for business purposes.
- Graphic design skills using adobe creative suite.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a retail environment and collaborating with store teams.
Preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field.
- Experience in retail, home improvement, hardware, or lawn & garden industries.
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar design tools.
- Experience with paid social media advertising.
- Photography and video editing experience.
- Experience with email marketing platforms.
- Experience promoting retail sales events or seasonal campaigns.
