It’s a good time to be an educator in the math department!
Dr. Adam Harbaugh, Shellie Meyers and Jenna Robinson were recognized at the 2022 Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference on Dec. 3 in Columbia, Missouri.
Outstanding Educator Awards
Dr. Adam Harbaugh
Harbaugh is an associate professor of mathematics and has been at MSU for 10 years.
He teaches math education courses such as Foundations of Mathematics for Teachers (MTH320), Geometry for Teachers (MTH360), College Geometry (MTH460) and Mathematical Processes (MTH377).
“This award is a nice reminder that my work really has helped my colleagues and students,” Harbaugh said. “Any successes I’ve had in teaching, I must share with my math education colleagues, with whom I collaborate daily.”
Shellie Meyers
Meyers has been a math teacher at Glendale High School since 2011.
Last fall at Missouri State, she taught the course Teaching and Learning of Math II (MTH410).
She also served as a department chair from 2015-2017.
Early Educator Award
Jenna Robinson
Robinson is currently pursuing her bachelor’s in secondary education of mathematics.
Graduating this spring, she hopes to give back to her future students.
“Teaching is so important to me because I remember what it was like to have good and bad teachers. They had a significant impact on my studies,” Robinson said. “I aspire to be the best teacher for my students, to allow them to grow as much as possible.”
This award gives her the continued motivation to be a math educator who makes a difference in her students’ lives.
“I am grateful to be recognized by the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics,” Robinson said. “It shows all the hard work I have put into my studies since being at Missouri State.”
“I would like to attribute the secondary-education math department for helping me become the pre-service teacher I am today,” Robinson said. “They have built me up and provided resources, allowing me to reach my greatest potential.”
