The Department of Media, Journalism, and Film is proud to spotlight two outstanding students from our program. These students exemplify the success we hope comes to each of our graduates.
The Missouri Press Association recently honored Emily Yonker and Emily (Hoffman) Letterman, both graduates of our program.
Yonker, a 2007 graduate, received the Missouri Outstanding Young Journalist award. Winners of this award demonstrate excellence in the field of journalism and maintain the quality, ethics, and standards of The Journalist’s Creed. Yonker is a reporter for the Joplin Globe. Her award is the result of her coverage of the May 2011 Joplin tornado.
Letterman, also a 2007 graduate, received the Award of Merit. Both ladies received their awards on Sept. 22 at a luncheon in Columbia, Mo.
The Associated Collegiate Press Photo Excellence Awards named current Missouri State University student Stephanie Anderson a finalist in the sports picture category on Aug. 27. Anderson also received an honorable mention in the contest’s environmental portrait category. The winner of the contest will be announced at the National College Media Convention in Nov.
Anderson is a senior print and internet journalism major from Pittsburgh, Pa. In addition to her work at The Standard, Anderson has interned at the Anchorage Daily News and the Tribune-Review in Greensburg, Pa.
The department is proud of our outstanding students and alumni. Keep watching our blog for more spotlights.
