Dr. Tim White, associate professor in media, journalism and film, will be screening the Academy Award-nominated anime film “The Tale of Princess Kaguya” at 7 p.m. March 19 in the Plaster Student Union Theater.
More about the film
When a peasant farmer discovers a tiny girl hidden inside a shining bamboo stalk, he and his wife raise the child to become a member of Japan’s noble class. But the beautiful Kaguya longs only for a simple country life.
The 2013 film is Isao Takahata’s take on Japan’s oldest folk story, “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.” It was made using a hand-drawn style reminiscent of Japanese water colors.
