St. Louis sophomore wins Fite piano competition

Hans Chan, a sophomore of St. Louis, brought home the top prize in Missouri State’s 19th Annual Fite Family Young Artist Piano Competition on April 18. The young pianist was awarded $1,000.

Other winners included Alexandra Rice, of St. Louis, in second place and Joshua Sandinsky, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, in third place. Rice was awarded $500, and Sandinsky was awarded $250.

About Fite

The annual competition is open to pianists between the ages of 14 and 18. The preliminary round is conducted by mail, with semi-final and final rounds held in Ellis Recital Hall.

This year’s guest artist was internationally acclaimed pianist and recording artist Joel Hastings, piano faculty member from Florida State University.
