KSMU Radio hosts NPR’s Liane Hansen in Springfield
KSMU Public Radio welcomes Liane Hansen, who for the last 20 years has been the host of NPR’s award-winning Weekend Edition Sunday. Hansen will speak at Coger Theater in Craig Hall on the Missouri State University campus on Tuesday, February 22nd at 7 pm. This is a complimentary event, open to all members of the community. Free parking is available in lot #24, just south of Grand.
Hansen has an extensive background in broadcast journalism, including work as a radio producer, reporter, and on-air host at both the local and national level. Weekend Edition has covered such breaking news stories as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the capture of Saddam Hussein, the deaths of Princess Diana and John F. Kennedy, Jr., and the Columbia shuttle tragedy. In 2004, Liane was granted an exclusive interview with former weapons inspector David Kay prior to his report on the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The show also won the James Beard award for best radio program on food for a report on SPAM.
“It’s an honor to bring Liane Hansen to Springfield,” says KSMU General Manager Tammy Wiley. “We feel privileged to be one of the stations she is visiting before she retires from NPR. This will be a nice opportunity for local public radio fans to interact with a highly respected journalist.”
As Liane prepares for her upcoming retirement this May, she is visiting as many public radio stations across the country as possible to thank her supporters. On February 22nd, she will share stories of her experiences at NPR, as well as her insights about the current state of journalism. Additional details are available at www.ksmu.org.
