Tara Benson Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Programming Office of Student Engagement

I have been a full-time staff member at Missouri State University in the Office of Student Engagement since September 2007, following my three year tenure at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. I’ve always been proud to serve the campus community at Missouri State, but that pride swelled after completing the University Staff Ambassadors program in 2011. After graduating from the USA program, I began looking at my role as a staff member at Missouri State. First and foremost, I consider it is a privilege to work at Missouri State alongside such dedicated and hardworking staff members and I want that to be recognized and valued on campus. As a Staff Senator I will continue to advocate for university committee involvement, recognition, and support for staff members.

I am originally from all over (son of a Coast Guard search and rescue pilot) but we eventually settled just outside of the Springfield area. In 2004 I made the short move to Springfield to attend MSU. I graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and went directly into the Master of International Affairs and Administration program from which I graduated in 2010. I served as a graduate assistant in both the Political Science Department as well as the Financial Aid Office which is where I eventually landed upon graduation as a Financial Aid Counselor. I have been a Bear in some form or another for nearly 10 years now and have loved every minute of it. Based on this experience I know that MSU is a great place to be both a student and an employee and want to help continue that tradition in any way possible. I believe serving on the Staff Senate is a great way to be more involved on campus while making a great impact for the MSU community.
