Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held in October every year, was created in 1985 to promote screening and prevention of the disease, affecting one in eight women in the United States annually and 2.3 million women worldwide. Known best for its pink theme color, the month features a number of campaigns and programs aimed at supporting those diagnosed, educating all on risk factors and the importance of screenings, and fundraising for cancer research (Breastcancer.org).
This year, Staff Senate will be raising funds for Cancer Research for the Ozarks.
“I believe that because of my oncologist’s participation and my involvement in a research study led by Cancer Research for the Ozarks I am here today and able to support others fighting cancer. Research will provide us with the answers to this deadly disease.” Diana Garland, Director of Learning Commons
