1. Giving Day 2023 – Mark your calendar for MSU’s annual Giving Day March 1 & 2, 2023. This 36-hour event makes a difference for Bears across the globe. Rally support for the area at Missouri State that matters to you most. Be a social media influencer and sign up now to be an ambassador for Giving Day. Share your unique link for a chance to earn an exclusive incentive. What can we accomplish in 36 hours when Bears unite?
2. DEI Spotlight- The Victim Center: LGBTQ+ and Working Through Trauma Class – Free-of-charge 6-week educational and coping skills class will begin in March. Any individual age 18+ who identifies as LGBTQ+ and has experienced a violent or sexual crime in their lifetime is welcome. Those interested or looking to learn more about the offering can call their office at 417-863-7273 during their office hours (Monday through Thursday from 9a-Noon & 1pm.
3. Local Candidate Forum for April 4th Elections – Paws to the Polls and the Office of Public Affairs Support will host a candidate forum for the mayoral and city council races on Monday, February 27th, at 4:00 pm in the PSU Theater. Both of the mayoral candidates and a majority of city council candidates will participate. Attendees will also learn about the roles and responsibilities of our elected officials and gain a better understanding of local politics and its importance in our daily lives. Open to students, faculty, staff and the public.
4. Forum for Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Campus Recreation – Student Affairs is happy to announce two candidates that will be interviewing for the position of Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Campus Recreation. Each candidate will give a presentation at an open forum on the topic: Within Missouri State University’s Long-Range Plan, recruitment and retention has been identified as an area of focus to ensure the university’s success. Within recruitment and retention is a focus on transferable skills as it relates to attrition, graduation rates, and recruitment to the Missouri State campus.
Candidate Colton Spaur
Thursday, March 2nd from 9:00am – 9:45am – Foster Recreation Center Studio B
Hello! My name is Colton Spaur. I currently work as a Facility Operations Intern at the University of Iowa within their Recreational Services. This internship is my last requirement to getting my master’s degree in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Administration from Western Illinois University, where I spent three semesters working as a Graduate Assistant for Intramural and Sport Clubs within their Campus Recreation. I’ve spent the past 6 years working in campus recreation, starting my freshman year of undergrad as an intramural official at the University of Iowa. Outside of campus recreation, I work as a high school basketball official. I have been licensed for four years, and work as high as the varsity level. As I’m finishing my graduate degree this semester, I am excited to be pursuing my career and passion in campus recreation!
Candidate Caroline Wieters

Caroline is a 2nd year graduate assistant for Intramural Sports at Baylor University and is originally from Dallas, TX. Even though she is Texas born and raised she did live in Missouri for 2 years after her undergraduate completion and absolutely loved every second of it!
The search committee for the Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Campus Recreation would appreciate your assessment of the candidates. This form will help summarize your evaluation of each candidate. Please understand that your responses will provide important information for the search committee in making its assessment of candidates. This assessment form is not intended for making comparison amount candidates. For that reason, please complete the form within one day following each candidate’s interview.
5. Get to Know Student Affairs – Student Affairs Event for New Employees – Join Dr. Dee Siscoe and Other Administrators for an Informational Overview of Student Affairs and “Get-to-Know” the Division for New Employees. Wednesday • March 8, 2023 • 3-4:30 PM – Plaster Student Union Ballroom East – RSVP to Priscilla Childress pchildress@missouristate.edu by March 6th. Refreshments will be Served.
6. National Eating Disorders Awareness Week – The Missouri State Counseling Center will be offering free, anonymous screenings for eating disorders during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week which is February 27-March 3. The times are 9am-4pm, Counseling Center, Room 304 of Magers Health and Wellness Center. Share this information with the students you work with.
7. BONUS: Bear a Friend – Send a Sleuth (a group of bears) to a co-worker, friend, or professor here at Missouri State. You can send a bunch of bears for a one-time suggested donation of $5.00. The collected funds will go to the Student Emergency Fund. How does it work? Complete the form in the link below and under the cover of darkness (or whenever their office is empty), your friends space will come alive with bears!
The bears will be collected from the office two days after the bearing has taken place. Make a friend/co-worker feel special and have some fun! They’ll receive a note saying “You’ve been BEARed” along with your message!
