Five Things – This Week in Student Affairs – July 15th

1.2024-2025 DOSA Award Nominations are OPEN – We are excited to announce the 16th Annual Division of Student Affairs Awards program. The deadline for all submissions is July 25th.  DOSA Awards will be presented at the Annual Student Affairs All Staff Meeting on Thursday, September 11th at 9:00 a.m. in the PSU Theater to recognize graduate students and staff from within the Division of Student Affairs for exemplary performance during the previous academic year. 2.Free Springfield Cardinals tickets – The Staff Senate Activities Committee is offering free tickets to a Springfield Cardinals game on Friday, August 1st at 7:05 PM. Staff members may sign up for 1-4 tickets. If you were given tickets to the June game, do not sign up for this game, so everyone gets a chance to go. There are 50 tickets and it is “first- come first-served”. After the 50 tickets are gone, a waiting list will be created. Please sign up by July 23rd for this fun event. 3.Faculty and Staff Biking Trip with Campus Recreation – Join us for an exciting adventure on the Wilson’s Creek Greenway on July 24! If you need gear, including a bike and helmet, it’s just $20 — or only $5 if you bring your own. Registration is quick and easy through My Learning Connection, and you can even use your Non-Credit Fee Waiver to cover the cost. Just search for “Outdoor Trip” to get started. 4.Inspire the Roar 5K – Join us for the Inspire the Roar 5K on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 8:00 AM, starting and finishing at the Foster Recreation Center! This Family Weekend tradition welcomes all fitness levels for a fun run/walk through the scenic Missouri State University campus. Enjoy music, snacks, a recovery zone, and the chance to win awards—plus a commemorative T-shirt (while supplies last)! Strollers and leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome, and MSU spirit gear is encouraged. Come celebrate Bear pride, wellness, and community in this family-friendly event. Click here to learn more.

5.Tent Theatre presents -Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “A Grand Night for Singing”  – The fruitful creative partnership of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II spanned the 1940s and ‘50s and gave us some of the best-loved, longest running, most successful shows in Broadway history: “Oklahoma!”, “Carousel,” “South Pacific,” ‘The King and I,” “The Sound of Music” and many more, most of which were also adapted into popular films. 6.Earn Your Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) Certification! – The Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) Exam Review Course is a valuable opportunity for full-time, nonexempt employees in Job Family 1 at Missouri State University to pursue professional certification, with course and exam fees covered by the University (one time per eligible employee). Facilitated by Colleen Neill, a CAP certified instructor through the Missouri SBDC, the course offers an overview of all key CAP exam topics. Sessions run from August 27 to October 8, 2025, every Wednesday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, with one Tuesday session on September 16. Participants will receive a study guide to aid in their preparation. 7.Sign up for Bear Crew and House Calls – It’s never too early to volunteer to take part in Bear Crew and House Calls. Become a member of the Bear Crew and welcome incoming students and their families to campus by helping them move into their residence hall rooms. We are looking for volunteers from our current student body, faculty, and staff to help with Missouri State move-in on August 14-16, 2025.House Calls 2025 will take place Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 5:15pm to approximately 8pm. The House Calls program is designed to reach out to residence hall students and give them an opportunity to interact with faculty, staff, and administrators on a more personal level. By visiting individual rooms in the residence halls, volunteers can welcome students, help determine if they need any assistance and answer any questions they might have.

Along with the option to email your updates, you can now use a Microsoft Form to share news, events, or announcements you’d like featured.
