We met early in the morning in order reach the Mekong Delta before the river market closed. Four hours later, we finally arrived. I thought the river market was amazing! To me, it was a place that has preserved tradition. The river market had many boats, maybe 30 or so floating near each other. One boat would be full of cabbage while another would be full of pineapples. Just so many boats and so many fruits and vegetables to buy. There was even a small boat that would travel to customers’ boats while they shopped. We decided to tie our boat to a pineapple vendor. We had the ripest, freshest, and most delicious pineapple for under $1 US per whole pineapple. Afterwards, we continued down the river to visit a local garden along the Mekong River in order to see how the fruit grew on the vines. Of course this tour wouldn’t have been complete without a sampling of some local, fresh jackfruit, dragon fruit, and mango. 🙂 Fruits at their finest! Grocery store and canned fruits do not compare to these fresh delicacies.
