Day four has arrived! We took a trip to the Mekong Delta. We traveled four hours to our destination and took a boat ride down the Delta. We saw the floating market. It is so interesting! We had a little boat pull up beside us and they attached themselves with a rope to ours and sold us drinks. Then we went through the market and back around. We stopped and got some fresh pineapple from one of the boats. We got to watch her cut the fruit. It was the best pineapple I have ever had. It was so sweet and juicy. The fruit in Vietnam is unreal. So fresh. It almost tastes like a completely different fruit.
We went back up the Delta and stopped at an orchard on the river. There were all kinds of fruit trees and chickens in the garden. Our tour guide said that chickens in the garden taste better than chickens in a pen. We tried fresh mango, pineapple, rambutan, papaya, and jack fruit. We hopped back on the boat and headed to lunch!
For lunch we went to a restaurant and had traditional Mekong style food. It was mostly fish, so I wasn’t a huge fan. The owner of the store also treated us to traditional Vietnamese music.
After lunch, we took our trip back to Ho Chi Minh. More time with the Troy students when we got back! They took us to see the big duck in Phu My Hung, District 7. Then we went out for hot pot. They made me try goat and tofu for the first time!
It was a great day in Ho Chi Minh.
