In the morning, we were supposed to go on the Cu Chi Tunnel tour, but I woke up with a stuffy head and chest, so I stayed behind. Ms. Pham and the girls were nice enough to bring me back some Banh Mi for lunch.
Then we journeyed our way to the Diamond Plaza. We went the American Center to talk to some Vietnamese students about MSU. They are all pretty curious about studying somewhere abroad. And they a had a lot of questions when we broke in to groups to talk! We left the American Center and headed to the US Consulate.
When we talked with the consulate, I liked hear in about all of their different positions. We got to ask a little bit about the disagreement between Vietnam and China and what they are doing to protect American citizens in case of any danger.
When we left the Consulate, we got ready for the Dragon Boat Dinner cruise. It wasn’t my favorite experience. It was very westernized. The music was a collection of cultures, not just Vietnamese. And the food was also westernized. The food we have been eating before is much better than what we were served on the boat. I am very much used to Vietnamese food now. The boat cruise is more of a tourist attraction than something the local people would do. Ho Chi Minh’s economy is driven a lot by tourism though.
Day five is over!
