The other day, I decided I would see if there were any documentaries about Myanmar on Netflix. I wanted to see a bit of it in a video in order to get an idea of what the country was like. I found one documentary entitled “They call it Myanmar.” It was heartbreaking to say the least. In the film, the country was extremely beautiful, but it was also extremely impoverished. Definitely something well beyond anything I have ever experienced. I am starting to realize just how eye opening this trip is going to be. Not only will I experience cultures that I am unfamiliar with, but I will also get to see firsthand how much of a struggle some of the people around the world have in their daily lives. In the documentary, it even mentioned how a lot of the people have to pawn their belongings in order to get transportation into the city where they work in order to earn money for food. I can’t imagine being so poor that I would have to give over my belongings to someone else every single day. I have to say that I am extremely grateful that I live in the United States, but I am also extremely grateful to have the opportunities to see what life outside of the US is like. This is definitely an adventure that I am excited to take, but it’s time for some more research.
