This week I wanted to learn some basics about what to experience in Myanmar. I know that it will be quite different than anything I could imagine because of the government that they have been under for so many years. Here are some of the things that I have found:
-Press in Myanmar has taken off. The government used to regulate everything that was published, but now there is no censorship by the government as of 2012.
-Roadways and railroads are still very underdeveloped so travel can be quite bumpy. Due to the underdeveloped conditions, it takes longer than expected to get from one place to another
-Do not drink tap water–it is not safe to consume.
-Modesty is important pertaining to clothing.
-Many people put a white paste on their face that is used as a sunblock in the heat of the day. It is usually applied in circles on the cheeks, but sometimes the people get creative with it.
That is not everything that I found, but I thought it was a good starting point to learn a little bit about Myanmar. I am interested to continue to learn more.
