Day 7:
Today is mostly a day of travel. We all got up early to head to the airport to fly to Yangon, Myanmar. The flights and airport were fairly uneventful but it gave us all a nice time to relax and get closer. As every day passes you can see how much closer all of us are getting and I am beyond glad that I get to share this trip with everyone else.
We exchanged out money and quickly found out that they do not have very large bills so I ended up with two giant stacks of cash. Not sure where to keep them. Everything here seems to be cheap though, my 1,000 kyat bills (equivalent to $1) are going to be too large for many products here.
After arriving in Myanmar, we took a bus to the hotel. I had heard stories of Myanmar and the drastic difference in incomes. Talking to our tour guide we found out that on average, the income is $100 a month. On the other hand, there are also some very nice houses and rich people. Thankfully, the prices on merchandise has dropped quickly since the change in power. (SIM cards, now $2, used to be over $4,000) it makes me sad to drive by the shacks and think of what this country has gone through. Despite everything their city seems to be growing and flourishing.
Dinner was enjoyable but I’ve realized it is going to be a harder to eat gluten free here though. Thank goodness for all the food I brought.
I cannot wait to see what the rest of this week holds. I’m loving it here so far.
