On our first full day in Bali we are going to Bedugul region and will visit a few temples. One of the temples is Pura Ulun Dana Bratan, a Hindu temple, located in Lake Bratan. This temple was constructed in 1633 as a dedication to Ida Batara Dewi Ulun Danu, goddess of the lake. It is generally pictured like it is magically placed in the middle of the lake but here is only water around 3 sides and then a grass walkway to the temple. It is the second most photographed temple outside Tanah Lot, which we will see later that day, and is breath taking.
Lake Bratan is on the NYT list of the top 20 World’s Most Beautiful Lakes. Not only does the lake house one of the most picture perfect temples, but it is also known to be a very fertile area an therefore a fair amount of local farming is done on the lake. It is located up in the mountains as well so hopefully it provide us some cooling off time.
