“The beach was packed with dead fish bodies and local people had to work in teams to bury them,” said a local fisherman in Central Vietnam on TuoitreNews. This became a major issue about 2 weeks ago when tons of dead fish were found on the shores in Central Vietnam beach shores. Though the reason has not been yet to be formally announced, many people believe that this was due mainly to the pollution that Formosa, a Taiwanese Steel Company has disposed to the water. This has terribly affected not only local fisherman alone but national seafood industry.
My family seafood company’s profit has reduced to more than half for this month. Many people were afraid that they would somehow consume those contaminated fish. As a result, restaurants and local market retailers stop buying them because there is not much demand. I am not sure how long this will take for the investigation to go through nor how long it is for the industry to be back and healthy again. However, I really hope that the real reason will be soon to be found, and people will learn to protect the environment more through this incident.
