Day 2
0010- boarded the plane in LA bound for Taipei. Spoke with my mother shortly before I left and she reminded me of a song I used to sing. It’s called Mekong by The Refreshments. I’ll mention it again.
0500ish – I woke up after sleeping 10 hours out of the 12 hour flight. I woke briefly to eat plane food. While it was good plane food it was still bad for food standards. I felt horrible having put it in my mouth.
0900ish- made it to Taipei. Had to help Austin search for food because he is really picky.
1100- Vietnam. Back to the song I mentioned. There is a line that says” I came all the way, from Taipei today” and so I have. Another country, another culture another set of facial features of the people passing bye. This is my home, my place, my place is on the road. With the strangers, the poets, the misfits. Wildly eccentric, often misunderstood. Loved or hated with nothing in between.
1400- bought a suit. While everyone was getting fitted I went outside to watch the cars go by. A store owner came out and spoke to me. We had a great talk, the old woman and I. She offered to bring me in out of the rain and a stool to sit on. She called me handsome. We spoke of Vietnam. She was nice and so was I. Then we agreed to that being nice is all that matters.
Met an American contractor and spoke about life and how we ended up here. He offered me a job. We enjoyed talking about street smarts and old school ways of living.
1800- tried to meet everyone for dinner but the taxi driver got lost.
2000- went to Bui Vien street where all the tourists and backpackers are.
