Very early start this morning to get to the airport in time to leave for Singapore. Taking off in the plane always makes me think about what experiences I’ve had in the country I’m leaving, and of course I had just had plenty in Vietnam. What struck me the most was that the people were generally very nice and welcoming, especially those who we officially met and hung out with, but also the general public. I would go for a run around the park by our hotel most days, and even though lots of people tell you to be careful and not go to places after dark, I felt totally safe. There would be hundreds of people, young and old, in the park after dark, running or using the communal outdoor gym equipment. Naturally I started doing the same thing and before I knew it i was having a gr at time with the local Vietnamese people. This friendliness was amazing and it was also why I thought one of my absolute highlight was the day we played soccer with the Vietnamese.
