We left Saigon for Singapore. First, I was struck by how impressive of a city Singapore is. Even the airport is elaborate. We took the MRT into the city. I was surprised by how efficient the MRT is even though it did take us forever to get the Ez-Link cards.
For lunch, a group of us went to a giant hawker center in China Town. There were hundreds of options, and it was a bit overwhelming. It was also weird to be able to read everything and be able to order in English as it is the dominant language in Singapore. I got a black pepper beef dish which was delicious albeit spicy.
For the evening affairs, we decided to go take I t he views from the top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel. We went up and enjoyed a drink at the bar Ce La Vi. It was breathtaking to look out at all of the lights of Singapore. The breeze from up there was also pretty nice. Of course, the prices were expensive, but that was a theme that we found throughout the city. Every where we went, prices were high. While the prices are probably somewhat comparable to major US cities, they seem absolutely ridiculous when compared to prices in Vietnam. That being said, everything is extremely nice and the city is incredibly clean.
We were also lucky enough to get to experience a torrential downpour while we were out.
