Our first day in Bali and we were thrown straight into the heart of the island. After a couple of hours of driving we found ourselves at a traditional Indonesian buffet lunch by the lake. The lake in question was Beratan Lake and the temple their, that we visited after lunch, was founded in the 17th century!
It was amazing to witness a place with such history, and got me thinking about how incredible it was that people were living in such a remote place, with such astonishing beauty all those years ago without any cars or easy means of transport.
Before traveling all the way up to the lake we stopped at a small fruit market which had some incredibly fresh and intriguing fruits. Moreover, at one of the stalls they were selling some sort of sweet chili potato chip… The best chip of any kind I have ever had!!
