The last few days have been full of activities and travel. We departed from the Springfield, Missouri airport on Tuesday, May 22. Our first layover was at the Chicago O’Hare Airport where we caught a 13.5 hour flight to Doha, Qatar. The airplane was nice and updated. Once in Doha, we took a two hour city tour where we were able to see highlights of the city. Doha is a rich country, making money from oil and natural gas sales. The tour included the city center, amazing views of the city, shopping and up-scale sites, and local markets. We were able to eat street food and experience the marketplace firsthand. After, we went back to the Doha Airport where we departed at 2:20 AM for Ho Chi Minh City. The duration of the flight was eight hours. The airplane was less updated and less comfortable, but we arrived at HCMC safely! After landing, we checked in our hotel. I elected to go to a local salon to try out a haircut. It was the most thorough haircut I have ever gotten, and I would highly recommend the experience. After, we picked up the group to go to a famous restaurant. While there, they performed a ceremonial event of cracking a clay pot of rice, throwing it across the room, having someone else catch it, and twirl the rice in the bowl before serving it to the table. After watching, a couple of us got to try on our own! The supper was amazing and rich in culture. One of the most notable items was 1,000 Miles, a dish of wild flowers that haven’t bloomed yet, available in this time of year only. They are regarded as lucky. When supper was over, we went to the Saigon Skydeck/Bitexco Financial Tower where we viewed amazing views of the city and ended the evening with a drink.
