Have you ever wanted to work behind the scenes of a live production? Have you hoped to get hired under a paid contract at a professional equity theatre?

Tent Theatre, located right here on Missouri State’s campus in Springfield, Missouri, is looking for its next young professionals to work the technical aspects of the 58th season in summer of 2020. Positions include carpenters, master electrician, sound board operator, props master, props assistants, paint assistants, costume assistants, assistant stage managers, and house operations/marketing assistants. All positions are paid under contract, and there is limited housing available. Additionally, those hired as assistant stage managers can earn equity points towards their union. Contract dates of employment are May 18th – July 22, 2020.
The technical application link can be found at the bottom of this blog post, as well as through Missouri State’s website via missouristate.edu > search “Tent Theatre” > clicking “Audition/Apply” on the lefthand side > “Technical Area Application.” Upon completing the application, a screen will appear confirming the completion of the application and provide instructions on sending applicant resumes to the appropriate parties- Mark Templeton and Chris DePriest. Applications will only remain open upon availability, so complete them as soon as possible.

Lillian Hilmes, Properties Assistant for the 2019 season, explained her time with Tent Theatre as “educational” and “unforgettable.” “It was great to get an opportunity to experience what working in theatre is like compared to going to school for it.” She continued on with how she was able to gain new friends from all over the country, professional connections, and “a greater appreciation for the hard work props masters and artisans take on.”

Mark Templeton, Tent Theatre Managing Director, explained what he looks for in potential Operations Assistants. “The ideal candidate will be a person who is able to multi-task with ease. People who are self-starters that need little direction are preferred.” Their training will include that regarding marketing strategy, customer service, and emergency maintenance.
Does all of this sound like something you want to contribute to and make a positive impact towards? Apply at https://tenttheatre.missouristate.edu/TechApp.htm, and don’t forget to send resumes to the appropriate parties post application completion.
